Unravel The Story of India’s Naval Capital with Mumbai Maritime – An Odyssey

Did you know?

Mumbai of today was a bunch of seven small islands, namely the Isle of Bombay, Colaba, Old Woman’s Island, Mahim, Mazagaon, Parel, and Worli, together known as Bombaim.

Mumbai is a lot more than a bustling commercial city, it’s a phenomenon which is a must-have in everyone’s list. From the incredible railway network which miraculously carries more commuters per kilometer than any other railway network across the globe – to the exceptional ways of housing more than 20 million population which grows with every passing day.

The city of dreams speaks for itself, but most of us just know the fascinating layer of commercialism that engulfs the city. The history of the city unknown to most of us, the evolution of present-day Mumbai is just a part of a few school books and nothing more.

Another aspect of the city is its inseparable connection with the naval forces. No Indian city owes its development and existence as much to Indian Navy as Mumbai. Carrying the legacy forward of a scattered and mismanaged port the then British Indian Navy developed Bombay as an efficient garrison town and a strategic naval base. Later with the efforts from the people of Bombay and the naval forces, the city replaced Surat as the commercial port capital of the country.

Mr. Shyyam Singhania the flagbearer of philanthropic Singhania family wanted to unravel the story of the real Mumbai, its history and inevitable relation with navy. Under the able guidance and vision of Retired Vice Admiral and commander in chief of the Western Naval Command Shri Girish Luthra and Late Retd. Vice Admiral Manohar Prahlad Awati Mr. Singhania came up with Mumbai Maritime – An Odyssey, a forty minutes documentary that explores the origin of Mumbai. It brings to light, how from a group of seven marshy, stark islands, Mumbai became one of the richest and culturally diverse metropoleis in the world.

“The documentary connects the dots to recall a 500-year-old story, it unearths a special bond – of a city with its navy. This is our way of thanking the Navy for being the backbone of the financial capital of the country,” remarks Saket S Behl, the director of Maritime Mumbai.

The team behind the movie has dug deep down in history to give us a movie that will remain with us for a very long time. They have explored places which are out of a layman’s reach, they have everything to bring out the essence of the city and present it to you.

Welcoming everyone with open arms, the beautiful city of Mumbai has a past which we all should be proud of and after watching this documentary which will be unveiled on the 21st February.  Enarr Group plan to unfold this story of Mumbai across the globe by being a part of International film festivals and cultural meets.
